Garfields Birthday – “Take A Ride” mp3
It’s raining now see… but hearing this seems to have changed my mind’s face. I’m suddenly feeling like it’s a top down day. =p Garfields Birthday writes lovely silly pop romantica, in the musical tradition of the Beach Boys and Beatles and the lyrical tradition of an overcast day on a seaside town in England when you decide the sun will break through somehow and by sheer force of will it finally does! Got all that? K, let’s begin. Press play. And off we go =)

Spunge – “Idols” mp3
Buster the Ska Doggie, with whom I am acquainted, posted a sweet series of ska and ska related mp3s with his own peculiar annotation. It must be a dog’s life, posting blurbs about ska songs all day and night. You can listen to the lot of it @ Buster’s blog on ska4u.com. Here’s one of the tunes, I just have to re-post – “Idols” by UK ska rockers Spunge. Big silly good ska-pop-punky fun, about something I think we can all relate to sometimes. Which idol do I wanna be like? Why Buster the Ska Doggie, of course.
The Voodoo Trombone Quartet – “(Hey You) The Rocksteady Crew” mp3
I do love me some trombones. And I do adore a good rocksteady beat. And we know how a sweet ska tune can put the cherry on top of a nice spring morning. So here you have it, the UK’s Voodoo Trombone Quartet with “(Hey You) The Rocksteady Crew” – a joyous outburst of dubtastic skanking glee. And that’s a good thing.

Soulful, funky, and jazzy – Yorkshire UK’s Capri sounds like he got his musical chops off the set of Superfly. “Boogie Man” is the title track from Capri’s 2004 release, although his bold songwriting and choice of album art makes me wonder if this album was meant to be released when the LP was the only format. In a world of cookie cutter R&B acts Capri is a harmonious nod to the eccentric and crafty R&B acts of the late 60s and 70s.
