Snowden’s “Anti-Anti” Is Anti-Bad

I just want to float away on guitars like these.. if only the drums would stop making me dance. A perfect song for the drive to the party or the middle of nowhere. A double negative outburst of pop positivity wrapped in gooey distortion and hand-clap candy. I’m calling this power-pop because in 2011 I think it qualifies. Original yet dangerously catchy!

No “Trashcan” for Delta Spirit

Long Beach rockers Delta Spirit bring it on home with this one. “Trashcan” is part rock, part soul, a dash of honk and a sprinkle of tonk, with explosive vocals that¬†are anything but trash, man. I love the acoustic piano and roots-meets-indie rock vibe. Brilliant track.

The Service Industry’s Industrial Strength Service

The Service Industry – “This Town Makes My Skin Crawl” mp3

Outstanding power pop from Austin’s The Service Industry. Sounds like a pissed off Beach Boys spent the weekend rocking out with The Byrds and The Clash. Extraordinary musicality and big-as-the-sky vocal harmonies immediately announce a band of real talent, and I have never heard a negative point made oh so joyously. I suppose that’s to be expected from a group that lists among its many influences: Woodie Guthrie, Jimmy Carter, Sri Chinmoy and Bela Bartok! This is exactly the kind of work I’m talking about when I say there is a wealth of gr8 under-discovered music right under our noses in the vast and tangled Interwebs.
