Moonstarr’s Dada No Wave “Climax”

Trippeth forth with the blippertronic sexbot bleepisms of Moonstarr. “Climax” is an ironic title for this, for it slithers along without going up or down, suggesting a sort of luxurious carrying on indoors on a rainy day with no hurry and no plan. Decadent sort of Berlin drug den music. Approval.

Fighting Kites Pay Musical Tribute To “Wojtek the Bear”

Bears are good. Indie rock bands and song titles with “bear” in them are extra good. Songs about a Syrian brown bear cub found in Iran and adopted by soldiers of the 22nd Artillery Supply Company of the Polish II Corps are extra super good. And that’s what we have here, by the Fighting Kites. Proggy fab instrumental weirdness, with guitars reminiscent of Tom Verlaine and Robert Fripp. Snuggly, but dangerous.

En schizofrens dagbok! En schizofrens dagbok, I tell you! Listen to this!

It’s Jam Band Saturday. More specifically, it’s Swedish Jam Band Saturday. Let’s break it down, it’s really Swedish Jam Bands Discovered By Frank Zappa Saturday. But Dorothy, how many Swedish Jam Bands can claim they were discovered by Frank Zappa? Just one, dear, the Mats/Morgan Band. They kick ass all over most fusion-y prog-rockers and dude has like, three kick drums. Reminds of King Crimson and Zappa himself at their wildest, with an added nod to the sonic brain-bending of modern electronic club music. Truly excellent.

Flash Mob’s “Blind Faith” Is Jazz With A “J”

Jazzit tup, kats. Flash Mob bends the time signatures and seduces the key changes all up down and sideways. Guitarist Ryan Williams leads the able bodied troupe through exotic corners of postmodern instrumental mental institutions. Yes.

Vassily Primakov Plays Mozart

Young Moscow born pianist Vassily Primakov is quite the rising star in the US and on the world classical stage. Here’s a live recording with the Odense Symphony Orchestra in Denmark, expertly conducted by American Scott Yoo. This is the first movement of Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 24 in C Minor, an epic piece of great humor and wit, plus an air of impending tragedy. Primakov’s approach is pure and direct – this is not a player who puts himself in front of the composition. Rather he gets on it, goes where it leads, and enjoys the ride. It’s a joy to listen to a work like this played so naturally and vitally. Super clean recording, too. The whole marvelous concert is available from the iTunewebs.

The Headhunters Page Mr. Wesley And It Is All Kinda Funky

This unabashedly funkay joint from New Orleans’ unabashedly funkay Headhunters is the medicine. Some folks still make music for music’s sake and that’s something to celebrate. This rises above the noise. K, I’ma catch up now.
