Even if you are not a music historian, as soon as you hear this piano pounding, guitar strummin’ song, you know you’re listening to the epitome of blues and boogie. The Graves brothers were accompanied by Cooney Vaughn on piano, creating the trio Mississippi Jook Band which recorded about four songs in all. The Graves Brothers were mostly blind, but that didn’t keep them from creating historical blues songs which have been commemorated in the Mississippi Blues Trail. A special treat in this 1938 recording of “Skippy Whippy” is that one of the brother’s Graves shouts out some calls half way through the song, energizing the trio’s finale!
