Sharps is the latest member of Bay Area label Muti Music’s able roster of dubstep and future bass artists who are providing the framework for the future of electronic production. “The Growth” is a choppy, sinewy track, bursting with dubby textures. And “thumbs up” on the album artwork. Eighties after-school cartoons rocked!

Roaring fuzzbass and the unmistakable trainwreck sound of a dive-bar mix can’t hide the great melodies and harmonies of “Girlfriend”. Eric’s Trip weave a tale populated by tall dark trees and spirits under rocks, but this is not so much the soundtrack to a dungeons-and-dragons epic, but more of a took-too-much-acid-in-the-woods-with-my-girlfriend-and-stole-her-car story.

When MP3 was still a new word, reviled by some and embraced by others, I surfed the Internets with fiendish glee to see what cool music I could find from artists who wanted to share their some of their work for free in this exciting new way. After wading through considerable muck, Love Is Laughter‘s “I’m A Bee” was one of the first keepers I found. Thousands of mp3s later, I still like it. It fooking rocks, is all. I love the raging vocal and seething Northwest guitars. Love As Laughter’s music is available from Sub Pop, Glacial Pace Recordings, and K Records. That is all.
